I Have Always Been a Dog Lover

I have had a dog since I was a kid. Currently, I have three dogs adorable dogs. All three are rescue dogs from a great shelter.

Regardless of how great the shelter rescue dogs can occasionally be a challenge since there is usually little information on their life before being in the shelter and have received little to no training. It is possible a shelter dog may have been dropped off because the dog misbehaved and someone couldn’t handle the behavior anymore.

After my husband and I adopted our first shelter dog we tried taking doing obedience lessons. It helped some but it would have helped more if I had known what I was doing and could put in some work beforehand at home.

I enjoy learning and hate not knowing what I am doing so I signed up for a dog training course. I am by no means a professional trainer who works with dogs every day. Just a dog lover who enjoys working on obedience training with my dogs and has learned a few things about training along the way.

Keeping Training Simple

The idea of training an unruly dog is overwhelming to some people (it was for me) and I needed it simple and a few different options when things didn’t work. After learning a few different strategies for training dogs and a little practice (lots of patience) it became much easier.

I want to teach people easy basic ideas for obedience training that any dog owner can use. Also, learning how to not let your dog train me made a big difference. Working training into your everyday routine and not spend hours training a dog is something I could handle and it made having three dogs much easier.

With a little basic obedience training and a few minutes daily to practice, you can have a better behaved dog in a few days. Consistency is key but it’s easier to be consistent if it only involves a few minutes a day. The amount of time and work depends on your goals and how your dog responds to the training.

The Goal

I hope that by sharing easy obedience training ideas it makes it easier for people to manage their dogs and enjoy life with them more. If a dog walks nice on a leash and comes when called it is less likely to run away and get lost. People are less likely to bring a well-behaved dog to a shelter. It’s my goal that we end up with fewer dogs in shelters and in their forever homes.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help.

Have a great day,

Kim
